How NBA Playoff Bracket Pools Work
The NBA Playoff Format
The NBA Playoffs feature 16 teams — 8 from each conference — seeded 1 through 8 and playing four rounds: First Round, Conference Semifinals, Conference Finals, and the NBA Finals. Every round is a best-of-seven series, and the bracket is fixed from the start.
What Is an NBA Playoff Bracket Pool?
Everyone picks the winner of every series before the playoffs begin, earning points for each correct prediction. The commissioner sets custom point values per round, so the Finals can be worth significantly more than the First Round.
Predict Series Length for Bonus Points
Since every NBA Playoff series is best-of-seven, pools can optionally award a bonus when you correctly predict the number of games (4, 5, 6, or 7). You earn the bonus when your series winner is correct and your game count matches the actual result — rewarding the players who read the matchups closely, not just pick the winners.
Running a Pool Over Two Months
The NBA Playoffs stretch over roughly two months, and a bracket pool keeps the competition running the entire time — every series result matters. Round-by-round mode lets participants pick each round fresh as matchups are set, rather than committing to the full bracket upfront.
The Play-In Tournament
The NBA Play-In Tournament determines the final two playoff spots in each conference before the main bracket begins. Your pool starts once the 16-team bracket is set — the play-in games are not included.
