What does it cost to run an MLB playoff pool?

Nothing for a pool of up to 10 people. Above that, the commissioner pays $20 for the postseason, and everyone they invite still plays for free.

Can someone join after the Wild Card Series has started?

Yes. In round by round mode they pick from the next round on and score from there. In full bracket mode the bracket locked at the first pitch, so a late bracket needs late picks turned on, and it is marked as late for everyone to see.

What if I call the winner but not the game count?

You score the series points and miss the bonus. The bonus needs both, and a wrong winner scores nothing for the series.

What if two members finish level?

The tiebreaker is the combined score of the game that clinches the World Series, and the closer call ranks higher. With the tiebreaker off, they share the place.

Does everyone need an account?

Players sign in so their bracket and game counts save to their own entry. For the one person who will not sign up, you can add a free guest entry and type their picks in.

Is there a mobile app?

There is no store app. The site is built for the phone: your group opens the invite link and picks from the browser, and it works the same on a laptop.

Why this and not a public bracket contest?

A public contest has a private group inside it, built around one tournament, and the group plays by the contest's rules. Here the pool is the product: your points per round, your series-length bonus, your picking mode, and the same pool renewed next October. Against the pool sites, the price is flat instead of per player, and there are no ads.

How an MLB Playoff Pool Works

The MLB Postseason Format

12 teams, six from each league: three division winners and three wild cards. The top two seeds in each league skip to the Division Series; the 3 seed hosts the 6 and the 4 hosts the 5 in a best-of-three Wild Card Series. Then a best-of-five Division Series, a best-of-seven League Championship Series, and the World Series, from the start of October to its end. A full bracket is 11 series. Byes and Seeding

The 1 seed plays the winner of 4 against 5 and the 2 seed the winner of 3 against 6, with no reseeding, so a bye team's opponent is one of two known teams. Every game of a Wild Card Series is at the higher seed's park; the later rounds alternate. In a bracket, a bye is a slot with nothing to pick.

Series Length

A Wild Card Series ends in two or three games, a Division Series in three to five, and the last two rounds in four to seven, so a game count has two possible answers in the first round and four in the last.

Setting Up Before the Field Is Set

The field is settled on the regular season's last day, and the Wild Card Series starts two days later. A pool can be created before that: the bracket fills with the real seeds once the field is official, and picks are open until the first pitch of the Wild Card round.
